Lavender has a wonderfully relaxing effect on the mind and body and makes a good remedy for anxiety, nervousness, and physical symptoms caused by stress such as tension headaches, migraine, palpitations, and insomnia. It also has a stimulating edge to it, acting as a tonic to the nervous system and restoring vitality to people suffering from nervous exhaustion. The relaxing effect of lavender can be felt in the digestive tract, where is soothes spasms and colic related to tension and relieves distension, flatulence, nausea, and indigestion, and enhances the appetite. As a tea, oil inhalation, or vapor rub, lavender is effective for colds, coughs, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, flu, tonsillitis, and laryngitis. A warm compress or bath will relieve chest congestion, and help with bruises and insect bites. It can be used as often as you would like and benefits anyone: men, women (including before, during or after pregnancy, and nursing), children and animals

Lavender Essential Oil

lavender baby herbal products

Essential oil of lavender is derived from the lavender flower through steam distillation and yields a very highly concentrated lavender essence, much more intense than lavender flowers. One pound of lavender oil requires distilling 120-130 pounds of “true” lavender flowers. Almost 10 acres of lavender are planted to harvest one pound of lavender oil, so it is a very valuable essence.

Essential oil of lavender offers a powerful sensory experience. Research on the physiological and psychological effects of essential oils is well documented and shows that it has been used for centuries to soothe, heal and rejuvenate the mind, spirit and body.   The various health benefits of lavender essential oil include:Calming the nervous system, inducing sleep, pain relief, skin care, hair care, digestion, immunity and for respiratory disorders (the oil is either used in the form of vapor or applied on the skin of neck, chest and back. )

It's a natural relaxant and stress reliever and a little goes a long way. Lavender essential oil is one of the only essential oils that can be used undiluted directly on your skin, but test a small patch of skin first. Packaged in an 1/2 FL.  or 2 FL. oz amber bottle with a fitted dropper insert.

Therefore, we use lavender oil drop by drop. Here are some ways to use lavender essential oil to scent your life.
  • Treat yourself by adding five to ten drops to your bath water to relax you and soothe and heal minor skin abrasions or sunburn.
  • Essential oil of lavender is reputed to ease headaches when massaged gently into the temples (test a small patch of skin first or mix with a base product).
  • Disperse the natural scent into the air using an aromatic diffuser or light bulb ring.  It is also added in many vaporizers and inhalers used for colds and coughs, or infections.
  • Shake a few drops onto a cotton ball and slip it under your pillow to relax you to sleep.
  • Add a few drops to your vacuum cleaner's filter bag to fill your home with the calming scent of lavender.
  • Refresh sachets, lavender buds, potpourri with a drop or two of oil, squeeze or stir for instant renewal.
  • Scent your laundry hamper by dropping a little on a paper towel and placing it at the bottom of the hamper, to keep soiled clothing fresh until they are washed.
  • Drop a little oil into the final rinse of delicate hand or machine wash to give lingerie and woolens a light lasting fragrance.
  • For the medicine chest, lavender oil may be used on burns, insect bites and cuts for relief and speedy healing.(test a small patch of skin first or mix with a base product)
  • Add a drop or two to Witch Hazel and put in a spray bottle to make a cooling mist for your body or your pillow.
  • Add a few drops to unscented massage oil, like Jojoba for a relaxing and healing body massage.
  • Put a few drops on a folded, wet wash cloth, microwave for 60 seconds for a hot compress. Use as an eye pillow to treat headaches or sinus infections.
